This set-up guide walks you through the process of transferring files from the Olympus DSS Player Pro R5 Dictation. It is designed for for special situations in which large amount of files need to be transferred to the server manually. There are several cases for using this method: large file transfers can be done in the background without affecting continue working on daily activities. Also, large file uploads can be extremely slow without FTP access. Illustrated screen shots have been included for your convenience.

STEP 1: Export Files to a temporary directory [Repository] on your PC.
  1. Create a Folder on your hard drive, for example [c:\temp]. From the Module, select the files you wish to FTP and browse to that folder.

STEP 2: Go to that folder and compress it so that it is one file.
  1. Once the files have been exported to the folder, use the program of your choice and make the folder a compressed file. For instance, go to To [C:\temp] right click and select [Send To] and Compressed folder.

STEP 3: Open up a command prompt and go to the directory that contains your compressed file to be sent via FTP.
  1. Go to Start > Run. In the run window type [cmd]. This will bring up a command prompt window. You want to get back to the directory that you put the files it. In this case we put it in [C:\temp]. Usually the command prompt will take you to [C:\documents and settings\user folder\]. If this is the case at the prompt use the command [cd ..] then enter. So do this back to get to the root of your hard drive. Then, if you wanted to get to a directory on [C:] you would simply type in [cd] then the directory name and hit enter. Example: [cd temp]
STEP 4: Connect to the FTP server using the command prompt
  1. Once you believe you are at the correct directory where your [.zip] file is, type [dir] and look to see that you have the compressed file [.zip] located in it. If you see it, you are in the proper place to connect to the ftp server. If you don’t you must locate it. Once you are in a FTP session you will not be able to navigate to your location on the computer. When ready to connect type [ftp ‘server name’]. Example ftp 69.74.219.199 as in the picture below:

Once connected, you will be prompted for user name and password. You will then need to type in [bin]. This will make sure that you transfer in binary. After that, type [pwd] to find what directory you are in. If you are in the correct directory on the server then disregard then next sentence. If you are not in the correct directory (folder), you can navigate by moving up and down the directories by use the [cd] command. To find out what directory you are in type [pwd]. So now that you are sure you are in the correct directory, type in [put ‘name of file’] and hit enter. Example: If the compressed file is named temp.zip, type in [put temp.zip]. Do not close this window until the file has copied completely to the FTP server. Once the files has been moved it will say, transfer complete. To exit the FTP session, type, [quit].
